What Do You Need for a Happy Pig Pet

A Pet Pig’s Favorite Things

When you bring home your new pet pig, there are some basic necessities you will need to provide. Of course, your pig will need food, water, and shelter. But there are also some other items that are essential for your pig’s well-being. Here are some things you will need to make sure your pet pig is happy and healthy:

A large water trough: Pigs need a lot of water, so a large water trough is a must. Make sure it is placed in a shady spot to keep the water cool.

A hayrack: Pigs love to root around in the dirt, so a hayrack is a great way to give them something to dig their snouts into. Fill it with fresh hay or straw for your pig to rooting around.

A brush: Pigs enjoy being brushed, and it helps to remove any loose hair or dirt from their coat. Choose a brush that is specifically designed for pigs.

A set of hoof trimmers: Regularly trimming your pig’s hooves helps to prevent problems like overgrowth or cracked hooves. Hoof trimmers can be found at most pet stores or online retailers.

With these essential items, you will be well on your way to giving your pet pig everything they need to be happy and healthy.

What Potty Should You Choose?

As any pet owner knows, accidents happen. But when your pet is a pig, those accidents can be pretty stinky. Pigs are notorious for their strong-smelling urine, and once a puddle forms on your floor, it can be labor-intensive to clean up. Not only did Ramses pee on our floor, but blankets, jackets, shoes, his and our kid’s toys, and countless other items had to be thoroughly washed. Trust me, a potty-trained pig makes you a happy pig owner. There are several methods you can use to potty train your pig. The key is to be consistent and patient. With a little time and effort, you can enjoy the companionship of your pet without the worry of wet floors.

Blankets

Anyone who has ever owned a pet knows that blankets are an essential part of making your furry friend feel comfortable and at home. The same is true for pigs, who are often found snuggled up in a pile of blankets in their pen. In addition to providing warmth, blankets also give pigs a sense of security and help to reduce stress levels.

Research has shown that pigs who have access to blankets are more likely to exhibit positive social behaviors and are less likely to experience health problems. So if you’re looking to make your pig happy, be sure to provide plenty of cozy blankets for them to snuggle up in.

Indoor Housing

Crate training your pet pig can be very simple. Get your bristled friend used to his new house by making it special for him. Put his favorite blanket in there or a toy he loves to play with. You may even want to put a little food in there so he associates it with something positive.

The key is to take it slow and do not force him into the crate. If you do, he will forever associate it with something negative and it will make the process that much harder. If you crate train your pig, be prepared for some destruction.

Ramses is the most destructive pet I have ever owned. He has ruined multiple couches, comforters, and even walls. But, he is also the most loving and loyal animal I have ever met. So, whether you decide to crate train your pig or not is up to you.

But be aware that of all the animals I have ever owned I can guarantee you that Ramses is the most destructive pet, (yet).

Snacks

Pigs love snacks, and there are a variety of healthy options available to keep your pet pig satisfied. Some of our favorites include:

Veggies: Pigs are vegetarians, so they love all kinds of fruits and vegetables. carrots, apples, watermelon, and broccoli are all great choices. Just be sure to wash them thoroughly to remove any pesticides or chemicals.

Hay: Hay is an excellent source of fiber for pigs and helps to keep their digestive system healthy. It also provides them with something to root around in, which they love to do.

Pig pellets: Pig pellets are a specially formulated food that contains all the nutrients your pig needs to stay healthy. They are available at most pet stores or online retailers.

As you can see, there are plenty of options when it comes to feeding your pet pig. Just be sure to consult with your vet to ensure you are providing them with the nutrients they need to stay healthy.

Snuggles

When it comes to pigs, there are a few things you need to know in order to ensure a happy and healthy relationship. For starters, pigs are highly intelligent animals and require mental stimulation in order to stay happy. One way to provide this is to spend time snuggling with your pig.

In addition to being a great way to bond with your pet, snuggling also helps to keep pigs calm and can even lower their heart rate. Of course, not all pigs like to be handled in this way, so it’s important to Respect your pig’s personal space and avoid forcing them into physical contact if they don’t appear comfortable. However, if your pig does enjoy being snuggled, then go ahead and give them all the belly rubs they could ever want!
